The observance of "Black History Month" highlights the importance of African diaspora in countries such as the UK, the US, and Canada. There are four colours which are used for "Black History Month".

The origin of "Black History Month" has its own history. In 1926, the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH) and historian Carter G. Woodson started the "Negro History Week".

The association has changed its name to the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH).

Then Black History Month was started getting observed in several countries such as in the UK in 1987, in Germany in 1990, Canada in 1995, France in 2018, Africa in 2020, and the Republic of Ireland in 2010.

The four colours that are used for Black History Month are black, red, yellow and green.
